Pyramids & Sphinx  Cheops Pyramid, the largest of the three, was built in the 3rd dynasty about 2690 B.C. and is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In front of the Pyramids of Chephren, we find the Sphinx. Carved from a single piece of stone, it incorporates a lion with a Pharaoh’s head, thought to be a portrait of the Pharaoh Chephren son of Cheops. Mount Sinai & Saint Catherine’s Monastery  Also known as Jabal Musa, Mount Sinai is a mountain on the Sinai Peninsula. This is believed to be the location where, according to the Bible, Moses received the Ten Commandments. Immediately north of the mountain is the 6th-century Saint Catherine’s Monastery. The summit has a mosque that is still used by Muslims, and the Greek orthodox chapel located there encloses the
rock that is considered to be the source for the biblical Tablets of Stone.

Petra is an historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Excavations have demonstrated that it was the ability of the Nabataeans to control the water supply that led to the rise of the desert city, creating an artificial oasis. Perhaps the best example of the Hellenistic style for which Petra is primarily known, is seen in the Treasury, which is 79 ft. wide and 121 ft. tall and references the architecture of Alexandria. Another prime example of Hellenistic architecture featured in Petra is its Monastery, standing 148 ft. tall and 160 ft. wide.
